Community Events

Since the summer of 2008, Green Acres Animal Hospital has been raising money to help the Town of Tonawanda Police Dept. with the cost of aquiring its first K-9 unit !! Our hospital began selling paw-prints for a $1.00 donation. The response was overwhelming!! Our clients were more than willing to help law enforcement meet their goal of $12,000 for costs. It also was a great way for people  to be aware of how our police  department was planning on making our community safer.
Majority of police departments locally have K-9 units on their force. Aquiring a canine unit in the department is for the day to day operations of the force. The addition of a canine unit in the Town will allow the department the freedom to continue investigations on their terms and not be reliant on the assistance of other departments that employ canine units.
            - A canine will assist the Special Investigations Unit in their search for drugs and cash during the executions of search warrants.
           - It will assist patrol, and may help establish probable cause, on traffic stops where suspicious circumstances exist and the belief is that drugs are hidden in cars.
           - It will be multifunctional in assisting patrol with dangerous building searches, open field searches, crowd control, and other situations where large groups have congregated and the police are outnumbered.
           - It will be used in the Town's schools to assist with locker searches.

The current plan is to have the new recruit trained and ready for action by next spring. Anyone who would like to make a donation can contact Lt.Detective Joseph Carosi at #879-6632.
